Session I: Vanguard Astra – First Petascale ARM Supercomputer

In the Fall of 2018, Sandia National Labs, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Marvell, ARM and Mellanox partnered to build the first Petascale ARM-based supercomputer: Vanguard Astra. This talk will cover the journey from the early days of ARM in HPC, on to kick-starting the ecosystem for the new generation of processors, then turning prototypes into commercially supported products to eventually build a production worthy supercomputer at scale. Recent benchmark results will then be highlighted and a perspective on the future of ARM in HPC will be outlined.
