Session III: Intelligent Network Interface Cards and the Future of MPI

Network Interface devices are emerging that are capable of performing limited computational tasks on the data that they receive. Unlike past efforts in the early 2000s, modern Network Interface Cards (NICs) are providing several fast cores that are similar in performance to host cores. This talk will first motivate the use of intelligent NICs in HPC and then discuss whether MPI should support such capabilities, and if so, how it could support them.
